McMaster University

McMaster University is a public research university located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1887, it is committed to creating a brighter world through research, innovation, and education. McMaster University offers various scholarships and funding opportunities for international students. These include the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP), Study in Canada Scholarships (SICS), and Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED). Additionally, the university provides internal and external bursaries and awards, mobility and international development funding opportunities, and support for forcibly displaced students, scholars, and researchers. The International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) also offers funded internships for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, though not for international students.

Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP)

• Coverage: $8,600 for 4 months or one academic term for study or research at the college of undergraduate level; $8,600 for 4 months or one academic term for study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD); $12,400 for 5 to 6 months for study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD). Funds can be used towards visa or study/work permit fees, airfare, health insurance, living expenses, ground transportation, and books and supplies.
• Eligibility: Citizens of eligible countries/territories in Latin America and the Caribbean; enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory; paying tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of their mobility in Canada; able to complete all project activities no later than September 30, 2027.
• How to apply: Review eligibility requirements, contact home institution's international office, submit application form and supporting documents (proof of citizenship, letter of proof of full-time enrolment, letter of support from home institution, Privacy Notice Statement) to gacexpro@mcmaster.ca copying McMaster supervisor (if research) by March 4, 2026.
