Tongji University is one of China’s leading institutions of higher education, operating directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a member of both Project 985 and Project 211, and is designated as a Class A university within China’s World-Class University Construction Program. With a history spanning more than a century, Tongji has consistently upheld a balanced approach to development across five core areas: talent cultivation, scientific research, community service, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international cooperation. This holistic vision has established Tongji as one of the nation’s top comprehensive universities.

The University encompasses 11 broad academic disciplines, including Engineering, Science, Medicine, Management, Economics, Philosophy, Literature, Law, Education, and Fine Arts. It employs 2,797 full-time faculty members, among whom 1,032 hold senior professional titles. The faculty includes 17 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 28 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including dual appointments). In addition, there are 37 international members from the World Academy of Sciences and academies in the United States, Germany, and Sweden. Currently, Tongji hosts 18,727 undergraduate students, 11,988 master’s students, and 9,112 doctoral candidates, along with 4,239 international degree-seeking students.

Tongji University offers 73 undergraduate programs, and is authorized to confer master’s degrees in 45 academic disciplines as well as 30 professional master’s programs. It also grants doctoral degrees in 37 disciplines, with 12 professional doctoral programs and 35 postdoctoral research stations. The University is home to six State Key Laboratories, one National Engineering Laboratory, one National Major Technological Infrastructure, one National Collaborative Innovation Center, one National Large-Scale Scientific Instrument Center, six National Engineering (Technology) Research Centers, and six other national-level research platforms, alongside 117 research platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels.

Additionally, Tongji University operates 12 affiliated hospitals and 13 affiliated primary and secondary schools, forming a complete ecosystem that integrates education, research, healthcare, and community service.

Scholarship Coverage and Standard

1. Category A:

Full coverage on tuition fee, free on Comprehensive Medical Insurance and living allowance (undergraduate student: 2500 RMB/month; postgraduate student: 3000 RMB/month, Doctoral student: 3500 RMB/month)；

Free on-campus accommodation, if the on-campus accommodation is full and you need to arrange off-campus accommodation by yourself, you can apply for off-campus accommodation subsidy (undergraduate student\postgraduate student: RMB 700/month students, Doctoral student: RMB 1000/month);

2. Category B:

Full coverage on tuition fee and Comprehensive Medical Insurance

Eligibility for Application

1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.

2. Applicants for bachelor’s program should be 25 or under; applicants for master’s programs should be 35 or under; applicants for doctoral programs should be 40 or under.

3. The following applicants would not be accepted:

a) Applying for a joint degree promotion program,

b) Applying for language and literature programs of one’s native language or a third language, such as English and French, etc.

c) Applying for English taught Undergraduate Program.

4. Applicants should not be holding any other scholarship provided by Chinese government or other organizations.
